Project Overview

Joondalup Brothers Rugby Union Football Club (JBRUFC) with the assistance of Athletic Development Systems (ADS) and funded by the City of Joondalup set about implementing a Junior Coach Development Program as part of its strategy to improve overall club development and long term sustainability. The Junior Coach Development Program was targeted at all U6 - U16 coaches and intended to provide an opportunity for coaches to participate in formal education and training with a direct result being improvements to both the player and coach pathways in areas such as retention, recruitment, club culture, people development and skill acquisition.

Key Objective

  • Improve the knowledge, skills and or experience of the clubs junior coaches through planning, delivery and review of a coach development program for U6 to U16 coaches.
  • Assist in developing the knowledge, skills and experience of players by assessing the current junior player and coach pathways in the U6 to U16 age groups
  • Assist with the long term sustainability of the JBRUFC
  • Strategies included the delivery of three education and training workshops, pathway analysis with review of training processes and procedures, junior coach screening, survey and liaising with relevant stakeholders in the implementation of the program.

    Workshop Dates

    Workshop 1 - Monday 9th July 2018 for U6 to U12 coaches. Content delivered by Brett Gallagher of Athletic Development Systems along with Brothers Premier Grade Head Coach Dave Wells and former Associates Head coach / Current State Coach Andy Cole.

    Workshop 2 - Friday 13th July 2018 for U13 to U16 coaches. Content delivered by Brett Gallagher of Athletic Development Systems along with Brothers Premier Grade Head Coach Dave Wells and former Associates Head coach / Current State Coach Andy Cole.

    Workshop 3 - Tuesday 20th November 2018 - Video Analysis of selected coaches from various age groups. Antonio Gerber - Reserve Grade, Denis Skillen - U15's, Gavin Hickey - U14's, Tamati Young - U15's, Simon French-Bluhm - U13's, Adrian Nathanielsz - U12's. worked alongside the clubs Future Prems Program players and ran a 15 minute session that was videoed.

    Special thank you to the City of Joondalup for funding the program and Brett Gallagher from Athletic Development Systems for delivery of a very professional and valuable program. The club is excited to continue on with its development and implementing some key strategies identified through the program.
