As the largest junior and youth rugby club in the state we are in a position to develop our own players and coaches thus we will limit the numbers we require from overseas or other clubs. To this end the club has launched its junior rugby academy with 42 players from 6 age groups (under 12 to under 18) selected during the 2011 season. In conjunction with a coach the coaches program that ran in August and September of 2011.
Players are currently in training and have been since October 2011 a large commitment on behalf of the club coaches Dave Wells, Daniel James and Jock Tiernan along with that of the players and their parents. The program was managed by Clive King. The players over that period have been given introduction to weights using the new weights facility, diet and nutrition and skills pertaining to the game. Late January will see further sessions of coach the coaches within the club structure to provide a club coaching program from the under 8 to 18 age groups as well as establish a pathway for the coaches into senior ranks in the future whatever develops the academy and the coach the coaches program will be a part of the clubs future and will continue beyond 2012. This ensures that new players from the under 12 to under 20 age groups will have the opportunity to obtain selection and some of those that are currently members may well be overshadowed into 2012 and beyond.
