Ladies Day 2018

Our annual Ladies Day event was held on Saturday 11th August, which was also our last home game of the season. This year was dedicated to raising funds and awareness of Ovarian Cancer, often referred to as the ‘Silent Killer’ due to the lack of an effective screening program and very generic symptoms. $10 from every ticket sale was donated to Ovarian Cancer Australia, raising $1,080 and collection tins were placed on the bar and raised a further $401.65. Our five senior teams all wore a specially designed Teal kit on the day, kindly sponsored by Kingsley Smash Repairs and Vayda Sports. The clubrooms were decorated in Teal and High Tea was served throughout the afternoon to over 100 Ladies. Our guest speaker was Debra Lunt, an Ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Australia, who gave an informative short talk on symptoms to look out for. She was then joined on stage by Shirley Smyth and Gaye McFadden, both ladies having just finished treatment for Ovarian Cancer and recently declared ‘all clear’. Our MC for the day, Brett Allen, then proceeded to entertain the ladies with games and spot prizes throughout the afternoon, rounded off with Donna Allen leading the ladies in a sing a long of “I am Woman, hear me roar”. As the senior games finished, the ladies were joined by spectators and players and the annual “Miss Joondalup Quest’ began, with all 5 teams performing their acts for the ladies followed by a final act by the senior coaching team, which led into our very own “no Direction’ band playing throughout the evening. A fantastic day and evening ! Roll on next year !
