Our Junior Presentation day was held on Sunday 18th October. Congratulations on yet another great year, a year that we didn’t know would happen due to COVID. With all the challenges faced it’s was great to see another very successful season for the club. We are very proud of the calibre of our juniors and watch, week in, and week out, as they represented us with great pride. We would also like to take this time to thank all our coaches and managers who have done an exceptional job in very challenging circumstances. With teams across every age group, with the exception of U11’s, we have managed to field 16 junior teams, with 275 active players + 32 training only. We have 32 coaches and 20 managers along with 4 match officials.
Our U6s to U10’s all performed well and with the new format of hosting tournaments and games at home many of them had the great opportunity to play on their home fields which would be without doubt one of their highlights. Late in the season the U8’s to U10’s headed down to the Albany 7’s and had some fantastic results. Our U8’s, U9’s and 10s players, coaches, managers and supporters were praised in the manner in which they represented the club.
The new junior format for finals saw the teams that finished top 2 playing in the Grand Final. Our mighty U12’s finished second on the ladder to secure their place in the Grand Final. The boys played out of their skins, against a much larger team and got up to win 19 to 7. Well done. Our U12’s Swan team had a challenging season but continued to develop well as the season went on. This was clearly evident in their big win against UWA 31 to 14 in round 11.
Our U13’s had a season of mixed results however the boys were always up for every game and put some very classy performances together throughout the year. Our U14’s were one of the age groups dominant teams with some very strong performances however they finished the season in 3rd place and missed out on the finals. Our U15’s finished the season 2nd on the ladder to arch rivals ARKs. Both these teams have a very strong friendship off the field and a strong rivalry on it. This game was worthy of a grand final as both teams threw everything into the contest. Unfortunately we went down is a close game 17 to 14.
Our U16’s came together and well throughout the season and after initially not thinking we would field a team the boys turned out in numbers and had a very enjoyable year finishing 5th on the ladder. Our U18’s were consistent performers all season finishing 2nd on the ladder to make their Grand Final. They started slowly and found themselves down 20 to 3 with 10 minutes to play. In the blink of an eye they were all tied up 20 all at fulltime. They eventually went down 27 to 20 in a tough game.
