Lake Joondalup Baptist College’s new rugby program has been a huge hit to date with thanks to Kyle Barker’s hard work, vision and drive that has made this a reality. With the support of Joondalup Brothers RUFC Premier Grade players George Peters and Taane-nui Phillips along with Director of Rugby Dave Wells the LJBC boys and girls have been put through their paces. Rugby WA have been immense in assisting with the program, their dedication to growing the game has been outstanding.
“It’s such a great experience to be able to come back to LJBC and give something back” said Peters, “it’s great to see so many students, especially the girls having a go” added Phillips. “Both the boys went to school here and it’s great to see the support and connection from past students” Wells said who’s 2 sons also attended the college. Joondalup Brothers has a long standing relationship with the college that’s been established over many years.
“Joondalup Brothers Rugby club has always been close to the Barker families heart. Its part of our DNA. I have strived to carry on my father’s (Bobby Barker) commitment to the club, by establishing a competitive School Rugby Program at LJBC and have it aligned with the philosophy of Brothers Rugby. Lake Joondalup Baptist College and Joondalup Brothers will be synonymous with Rugby Union in the northern suburbs, and together these two organisations will create a strong and lasting Rugby tradition.” Said Kyle, who was the Brothers very first registered junior player with his dad now a life member of the club.
