Securing our Future has always been a focus within the club and shared by our senior players. This year is no different with our Premier Grade players mentoring our next generation of stars as they impart their skills and knowledge onto our junior players.
Premier Grade captain and half back Josh Wells went down to the U11’s to work with their halfbacks and assist the coaching group which is headed by Alex Jack. “Josh was fantastic with the boys and they certainly learnt a lot. Im sure they will be excited to watch Josh’s next game and offer their feedback to him as well” Alex said.
Joshua Lomani our Premier Grade centre went down to the U15’s training and worked with their backline, offering advice around running lines and communication. Head coach Adrian Nathanielsz said “The boys loved it, they took on aboard everything Joshua said and tried hard to apply it, the session was fantastic.” In recent weeks we have also had Grayson Tihema and Mitchell Millar working with our U13’s.
Director of Rugby Dave Wells said “At the end of 2020 the club did a short survey of our entire coaching group and this was the top request, getting our Premier Grade players down to juniors training to help out”. All our coaches have embraced this fantastic initiative and appreciate the input from the boys, who are also pretty excited to work with the kids. It’s great for them to give up their time to help our future stars.” Wells added “This also connects the kids to the senior teams, they love coming down and watching them play, being ball boys and mascots. I believe it’s an important ingredient in keeping our home grown talent at the club in the years ahead. Our goal is to mentor and inspire these kids so they wear the Brothers jersey with pride and aspire to play Premier Grade for the club in the future.
